synopsis
Photographer Mathieu Farcy met patients whose faces needed to be reconstructed following illness or accident. He worked with these individuals for five years. Each experienced the loss of a familiar face differently, leading them into a labyrinth of uncertainties. This project stemmed from a desire for shared creation.
How can one convey a trauma as profound as the loss of one's own face? How can one create a form from feelings, from experiences of dreams?
Philippe, Samia, Anna, Béatrice, and Xavier—no one had a specific creative idea in mind, but all felt the need to develop and create from their unique experiences. Sculptures, installations, writings, photographs—all the works, images, and texts are co-creations; they were all conceived jointly. The stories of each intertwine and collide. Handwritten entries from Mathieu Farcy's notebook, excerpts from exchanges or reflections, punctuate the book. The pages fold and unfold, revealing and/or revealing each person's bruises...

about Mathieu Farcy
Born in 1985 in Amiens, Mathieu Farcy's artistic work is rooted in encounters. In the encounter with sociology and psychology, during his studies but also in face-to-face encounters, in the connection and the idea that artistic creation is a way of caring for others.
